Dear Ellen,
We’d like you to meet Michelle DuBarry

She’s one of the oldest performing drag queens in the world and an icon in Toronto’s LGBTQI2S community.
She’s helped countless others live their truth. Now let’s help her live her dream.

Egale’s vision is to have a Canada, and ultimately a world, without homophobia, biphobia, transphobia and all other forms of oppression so that every person can achieve their full potential, free from hatred and bias. One of the primary causes we focus on at Egale, is LGBTQI2S seniors.

There are many unique challenges that come with ageing as an LGBTQI2S person.

  • 52% of LGBTQI2S seniors fear being forced back into the closet in residential care.
  • 80% of LGBTQI2S seniors are interested in LGBTQI2S-friendly housing
  • 53% of older LBGTQI2S seniors feel isolated

We want to improve the lives of LGBTQI2S people, especially our seniors, who are vulnerable to multiple and intersecting forms of discrimination based on age, including abuse, abandonment, negligence, mistreatment and violence because of their sexual orientation, gender identity, diverse bodies and/or physical characteristics

Our goal is to get Michelle DuBarry on Ellen to help raise awareness around the issues faced by LGBTQI2S seniors. Read more here
